Delineation Workshop

County Roadside
Managers and Engineers attended a wetland
delineation workshop in Ames in mid-December.
Meg Flenker, Flenker Land Architecture
Consultants, facilitated the workshop which
included a review of the delineation process:
from assessing potential wetlands on a project
site during preliminary planning, through
permitting, mitigating, and monitoring. The
State IRVM Office coordinated the LRTF-funded
workshop. |

attend annual roadside conference in Cerro Gordo County
| "Roadsides, Living
on the Edge" was the theme of the 23rd annual
roadside conference hosted by Cerro Gordo
County. Registrants from five states attended
the event which featured presentations focusing
on managing roadside for habitat. Cerro Gordo
County is a leader in roadside efforts, with a
long history of conservation-driven IRVM. A bus
tour allowed conference participants to view
several successful roadside plantings and was
followed by hydroseeding, seed harvest and
erosion control demonstrations at Lime Creek
Nature Center.

Invasive
Species Field Day
| The Hawkeye Cooperative Weed Management Area
sponsored a daylong event, June 11, at Wickiup
Nature Center near Cedar Rapids featuring
numerous sessions about invasive species. The
LRTF provided funding. Pictured: Dave Williams

Stewards of the Beautiful Land summer courses
held this summer

With financial
support from the Living Roadway Trust Fund,
Trees Forever conducted its popular
"Stewards" courses this year in Polk and Des
Moines Counties. Classes were held throughout the
summer. Community volunteers learned
about Iowa's native plants and how to use them
to create attractive, functional community
landscapes.

Loess Hills Prairie Seminar
|
This annual event draws
educators, students, park and conservation
persons, community leaders, and citizens to the
Loess Hills Wildlife Area near Onawa for variety
of prairie and conservation programs including
burn demonstrations, bird walks and other
workshops. The LRTF provides support for the
event.
