North American Prairie Conference Aug 4-8, 2008
 WSU hosts the 21st North American Prairie Conference. The theme, "The Prairie Meets the River," emphasizes the importance of water in the prairie environment.

The conference features keynote presentations by Wes Jackson and Cal Fremling, field trips, art and photographic exhibits, a cruise on the WSU River Explorer, and BBQ and entertainment at Prairie Moon Nursery.

Wetland Plant ID Workshop Jun 10-13, 2008
 Robert Mohlenbrock, emeritus professor from Southern Illinois University and outstanding botanist/teacher, will lead this field learning experience. Organized by the Iowa Valley RC&D, the workshop will be held at several wetland sites in southeast Iowa for an intensive, hands-on field course where distinguishing characteristics and habitat requirements of every plant encountered will be discussed. No prior experience in botany is required, but will be helpful.
