Transportation Enhancement Seeding Projects
Iowa's IRVM Program Office is funded by the Living Roadway Trust Fund and located
at the University of Northern Iowa. Since 1998 the IRVM Program Office has applied
for and received federal Transportation Enhancement (TE) funds to purchase native
seed for plantings along Iowa's county roads. Images of some of these plantings
can be found at the Transportation Enhancements'
Image Library.
84 of Iowa's 99 counties have received TE seed. The map shows the number of years
each county has received seed since 1998.

TE activities are community-based projects that expand travel choices and enhance
the transportation experience by improving the country's transportation infrastructure.
The funds come from the Highway Trust Fund, a repository for the receipts from the
federal excise tax on gasoline.
